The Race to ReStore was a success! The day may have been windy, but that couldn’t stop us!

We had 65 racers overall. 37 in our 5k, 12 in our 10k, and 16 in our 1-mile fun run. The winners in all of the categories were:

  • Anthony Howard, Male 5k
  • Amy Doennig, Female 5k
  • Ken Schramm, Male 10k
  • Heather Mooney, Female 10k
  • Levi Richards, 1-mile fun run

After the race, our guests were treated to an evening of fun. There was face painting, popcorn and balloon animals for the kids and all of our participants and their guests were treated to dinner.

We want to give a special thank you to the Resource Development Committee for all of their help with this event and also a special thank you to all 10 of the Joplin Area partner families that came out to help and enjoy the event!

Thank you to all of the supporters who came out to run/walk/have a good time at the Joplin Area Race to ReStore! The race was definitely a success and we want to give a special thanks to all who participated in the race and made the event even better.

This event features prizes, post-race entertainment, refreshments, goodie bags, and even a raffle. Bring your whole family out to enjoy a day of exercise and a whole lot of fun!

The Race to Restore is a 1 mile fun run/walk on 10k and 5k certified courses. Anyone can participate in the event, and there are prizes for every 10-year age category. There are several things that you can walk away with, including shirts and goodie bags, and there will be a raffle for those who bring a ReStore donation to the event.

Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. at the ReStore on Black Cat Road just North of 7th street. The races begin at 4:00 p.m., and dinner is served afterwards at 5:00 p.m. with awards starting at 5:30 p.m.

Families received the keys to their new homes and expressed their thanks and gratitude to Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, all of the sponsors, volunteers, Joplin Habitat for Humanity, and to Missouri Southern State University. MSSU gave their surprise announcement that all 24 children in these homes were to receive 4 year scholarships to the university. What an incredible surprise!

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Daughtery Street on September 28, 2011. The homeowner partner family is Amber Lancaster and her two young sons, Tristen and Ellis. Amber is incredibly excited about this opportunity to become a homeowner and work alongside the giving community to build a safe, affordable house for her and her family.

Contributing partners on this project include General Mills, Christ’s Church of Oronogo, the Habitat ReStore, the City of Webb City, Webb City Chamber of Commerce, Economic Security Corporation, and the Webb City/Carl Junction Rotary. Thank you to everyone who is making this house a reality.

This is our second house built with the Building Trades Program and we are excited about this continuing collaboration. Here are some photos of the groundbreaking ceremony held on Thursday, September 15th on Water Street in Carl Junction. Wells Fargo is sponsoring the build with a $35,000 donation. Carl Junction building trades program will build the house alongside Kim Jones and family and Wells Fargo participation. It was a great event and we are very excited about this continued collaboration. We welcome the Kim Jones family as our Habitat partner family!
